The Shingles Vaccine
There is a vaccine that reduces the risk of getting shingles and of suffering neuralgia as a complication of shingles. The vaccine is intended for people over the age of 50, the age group at greatest risk of developing shingles, and has been found to reduce the risk of shingles by around half, and the risk of long-term pain as a complication of shingles by two-thirds.
Shingles vaccination is nothing new, it has been used for several years, mainly in the United States, where it has been available since 2006. Read more here.
Shingles vaccine is included in the Swedish general high-cost protection scheme for medicines.
